How to Get There

You will be flying in from the KK Airport, located in Kota Kinabalu, and from there, your trip to the village will be approximately 200 km. This is about a two hour drive by car. Check out our private chartered car rental page here.

However, if you do not wish to drive, you will be pleased to discover that you can also get there by taxi or hire a tour guide to provide transportation. Saloon cars, four-wheel drives and traditional vehicles can be found here, and therefore, you have numerous options for getting around.

The units at Morning Glory Hotel also have beautiful tile flooring and certain rooms feature flatscreen TVs. Across the street is a restaurant that serves a great selection of local food, Chinese dishes and sea fare.

A gift shop is located on the property, and dry cleaning service is available for all guests. Staff members can be reached at the front desk 24 hours a day, and car rentals can be acquired on a daily basis.

Activities at Kudat and Surrounding Area

Chinese Temple

Although it is a small village, the town has an impressive number of activities and attractions in which you can indulge. For example, if you enjoy viewing ancient architecture, consider visiting the town’s outstanding Chinese Temple.

The Temple is located in the main square of the city, and is adjacent to the Tamu Market. The latter offers dried fish, tropical fruit, nuts and edible seaweed, so after viewing the Temple you can enjoy shopping for authentic, local fare.

Turtle Conservation Center

Another popular attraction in the village is the Turtle Conservation Center. The center is located at the Lupa Masa Bavang Jamal Homestay, and is run by a society of volunteers.

If you find this interesting, you should consider taking an excursion with the society on one of their night vigils to area beaches. The goal of the center is to protect the eggs of hawksbill and green turtles, and thus prevent them from becoming extinct.

A great choice of attractions for travelers of all ages, you should definitely put this establishment on your must-see list.

Tommy’s Dive Center

If you are diving fan, we are sure you will not want to miss a trip to Tommy’s Dive Center. Here, you can rent equipment for the following:

• Diving
• Windsurfing
• Fishing
• Surfboarding
• Bicycles
• Kayaks

You can also find out from the Dive Center where the best places are to indulge in such activities.

Kampung Sumangkap Gong Factory

If you are interested in unusual crafts, be sure to stop at the Kampung Sumangkap Gong Factory. Located in the village after which it was named, this small factory produces the important Rungus instrument known as the gong.

Watching gong makers at work is an intriguing way to spend a few hours. You can also try playing a gong or even attempt to make your own. We cannot think of a more unusual souvenir to take home than a handmade gong.

At the northernmost Tip of the Borneo Island, approximately 20 minutes drive from town, is Simpang Mengayau Phillips Park. Here you will discover a modest sized lawn with an attractive monument, flags, and several recreational areas from which you can watch the sunset.

There is also the traditional Rungus style restaurant and souvenir shop near the park, featuring Western and Asian fare.

Tropical Research and Conservation Center

If you are concerned about the environment and like to learn about conservation, consider a trip to the Tropical Research and Conservation Center.

Here, you can go on expeditions with diving volunteers who are attempting to conserve the coral reefs by planting new coral. This is a fun and interesting activity that we are sure you will never forget.

Rungus Handicraft Center

Check out the Rungus Handicraft Center if you have time. You will particularly like their handwoven Tinohian cloths featuring intricate bead work.

Honey Bee Farm

At the edge of Kampung Gombizau is a traditional honeybee farm. If you have the slightest interest in how beekeepers do their job or just want to enjoy learning how honey is made, you should place this on your list of things to see.

Advance Reservations

Advance reservations are recommended so you can get a good price and have a broad range of dates from which to choose. With its dramatic vista of blue skies and rolling seas, you will likely never forget a trip to the Tip of Borneo and will probably want to return again soon.
