At the tip of Borneo, the sleepy village of Kudat draws travelers every year who are searching for a fun and interesting getaway destination. Once an important trading post, the village now thrives on tourism. It is surrounded by picturesque landscapes, coconut groves, and the beautiful Peninsula.
How to Get There

However, if you do not wish to drive, you will be pleased to discover that you can also get there by taxi or hire a tour guide to provide transportation. Saloon cars, four-wheel drives and traditional vehicles can be found here, and therefore, you have numerous options for getting around.

The Temple is located in the main square of the city, and is adjacent to the Tamu Market. The latter offers dried fish, tropical fruit, nuts and edible seaweed, so after viewing the Temple you can enjoy shopping for authentic, local fare.
Turtle Conservation Center
Another popular attraction in the village is the Turtle Conservation Center. The center is located at the Lupa Masa Bavang Jamal Homestay, and is run by a society of volunteers.
If you find this interesting, you should consider taking an excursion with the society on one of their night vigils to area beaches. The goal of the center is to protect the eggs of hawksbill and green turtles, and thus prevent them from becoming extinct.

Kampung Sumangkap Gong Factory
If you are interested in unusual crafts, be sure to stop at the Kampung Sumangkap Gong Factory. Located in the village after which it was named, this small factory produces the important Rungus instrument known as the gong.
Watching gong makers at work is an intriguing way to spend a few hours. You can also try playing a gong or even attempt to make your own. We cannot think of a more unusual souvenir to take home than a handmade gong.
At the northernmost Tip of the Borneo Island, approximately 20 minutes drive from town, is Simpang Mengayau Phillips Park. Here you will discover a modest sized lawn with an attractive monument, flags, and several recreational areas from which you can watch the sunset.
There is also the traditional Rungus style restaurant and souvenir shop near the park, featuring Western and Asian fare.
Tropical Research and Conservation Center
If you are concerned about the environment and like to learn about conservation, consider a trip to the Tropical Research and Conservation Center.
Here, you can go on expeditions with diving volunteers who are attempting to conserve the coral reefs by planting new coral. This is a fun and interesting activity that we are sure you will never forget.

Honey Bee Farm
At the edge of Kampung Gombizau is a traditional honeybee farm. If you have the slightest interest in how beekeepers do their job or just want to enjoy learning how honey is made, you should place this on your list of things to see.
