What is Usukan Cove and why you should come

When you think of a beach cove, you often think of a place that is beautiful, secluded and embraced by tranquillity – qualities which make it an excellent place to spend time with your loved ones away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, or an ideal spot to be alone while getting away from one’s troubles and being one with nature. Where is Usukan Cove

Located on the coast of Kota Belud about an hour and a half drive away from Kota Kinabalu, Usukan Cove is truly a treasure trove tucked away on the edge of a spectacular island worth stumbling upon.

The Normal Tour Routine

Usukan Cove tours usually begin by a brief stay at the Usukan Cove Lodge, where food is served while discussing the day’s activities.

Afterwards, you are will be free to explore the beach, which has soft sand, calm blue waters and a row of palm trees under which hammocks are attached where you can be lulled by the soothing sea breeze into a refreshing nap or simply relax and read a book as you enjoy the ambience.

The Sea Route

If you opt to go out to sea and take the plunge, you will surely be fascinated by the wealth of marine life and diversity of underwater scenery that lie in waiting beneath the surface.

Indeed, the waters around Sabah are known to be a paradise for divers and the waters around Usukan Cove are no different.

Even if you just decide to stay on the boat and fish, you are still bound to have an adventure as you catch various species of fish, which you can cook back at the shore or simply toss back to the ocean afterwards.

The Cruise

If, on the other hand, you choose to go on a cruise down Kawa Kawa River, you will be equally enchanted, greeted by the sight of the villages along the river and Proboscis monkeys perched on the branches of various trees.

Proboscis monkeys, so named because of their long noses, can only be found on the island of Borneoand are known to make interesting sounds and facial expressions.

What to do during cruise

The river cruise can take a few hours and it is recommended that you take it in the afternoon.

This way, when you are done, you will be able to enjoy magnificent sunset views and after the sun has set, you can also enjoy watching the fireflies as they dance among the trees on the banks of the river, seemingly like swirls of pixie dust.

The end of tour

The tour usually ends with dinner at the Usukan Cove Lodge, after which you can return to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu, bringing wonderful memories home with you.
