Food in Beaufort — 10 Must-Eat Dishes (Beyond Beaufort Mee)

Last updated: March 2026

What's the best food in Beaufort?

The single dish to come to Beaufort for is Beaufort Mee — dark, smoky stir-fried flat noodles you cannot get the same way elsewhere in Sabah. Beyond that, the town is strong on Sinalau Bakas (smoked wild boar from interior stalls), Tapai (fermented rice in banana leaf), Linopot (rice steamed in doringin leaves), and Bambangan Sambal. Most locals will tell you to do a half-day food trip from KK — Beaufort Mee for breakfast, Sinalau Bakas at a roadside stop, head home.

Beaufort is a small interior town on the KK–Tenom railway line, but it punches well above its weight in food. People drive 90 minutes from KK specifically for one dish — Beaufort Mee. The town also has strong Kadazan-Dusun and Malay food traditions, and the surrounding interior contributes wild-harvested ingredients you cannot find on the coast.
